3 Steps To Keep Smiles Healthy All Summer

Posted by McKeel Family Dentistry on Wednesday, July 10, 2019

Summertime is a time of family fun, quality time, and vacation! Michael McKeel, DMD and the professional team at McKeel Family Dentistry, however, want to remind you that even in summer it is important to maintain dental health! Staying on top of your dental care routine is the best way to keep those smiles bright and healthy.

Here are the best ways parents can make sure their kids’ smiles stay healthy all summer long:

Stay On A Routine

When you’re on vacation or staying up late for summer activities, it can be tempting to let your regular routine slip. You may find it tempting to let kids skip over brushing their teeth before a late bedtime or to pass over brushing in the morning after they sleep in. Michael McKeel, DMD recommends against this! No matter how busy you find yourselves, make sure your kids and the whole family make time to brush twice a day for 2 minutes at a time, and floss at least once a day. Staying on your dental health routine over the summer also means that you won’t have to struggle with starting all over once the school year begins.

Dial Back On To Sugar-Filled Drinks And Snacks

There is a lot of summertime sugar-filled treats. Lemonade and sodas are fine as an occasional treat, but it is important to limit the intake of sugar all year ‘round. Michael McKeel, DMD at McKeel Family Dentistry recommends that kids drink plenty of water over the summer to beat the heat or even milk alongside meals.

Make Your Back-To-School Dentist Visit Early

Not all schools require back-to-school dental checkups for children, but either way, it is a good idea to check in on your child’s dental health before the busy school year starts. Michael McKeel, DMD is eager to make sure your family is on the path toward maintaining their dental health. Check-in with us before school, and maybe schedule early to avoid the August rush.
